Steam floats off the water in a genuine, claw-footed tub. Of course it's genuine, this is New Orleans, in a friend of a friend's dry home. A real bath after weeks of rushing through quick, tepid showers, coaxing drips of shampoo from the bottom of bottles and drying off with used, damp towels.

After scrounging in a kitchen I don't know, the red and blue box of matches comes to me like a prize. I pull crisp cellophane off the vanilla candle and light it. Then I pour white crystals from a carton of epsom salts into the steaming water.

Welcome to my site. It's a little corner of the world wide web where I can share what's going on in my writing life. I've finished writing "The Witching," a novel about a modern-day family of witches. "The Witching" will be the first in a series about a dysfunctional, magical family. After a lifetime of not having any magical abilities like the rest of her family, the protagonist, Tavya, has decided to be the best non-witch she can be. After life throws her a few hardballs, Tavya develops some frightening new skills. Her family and the magical community are thrown into a frenzy when Tavya comes into her powers. While she struggles to adapt, the witching community resists accepting not only Tavya, but the neo-pagans who've made a claim on the very heritage the witches have hidden in order to survive. Tavya's evolution into a witch brings on a war between the witches who want the world to remain unchanging and those who would welcome the pagans. Now that the series is under way, I'll return to screenwriting. My screenplay, "The Dream Keepers," placed as quarter finalist in the International Page Awards, last year. Just gotta keep my fingers on the keyboard.
